Western Suffrage History Summit

2020 was envisioned as a year of suffrage commemorations, but even though the events of this year have cancelled many planned celebrations, they have brought to the fore just how important our voting rights are. Better Days 2020 and Boise City Department  gathering women’s history scholars to talk about 19th Amendment commemorations, the history of women’s voting rights in the West, and what the next story is we all will tell together. This virtual summit is open to all and will be streamed via Zoom. Advance registration is required.

Tuesday, October 27:

  • 9:30 am - Keynote lecture, “A Living Faith in Democracy:”  The Rise of Woman Suffrage in the West. 

    • Jennifer Helton, Assistant Professor of History at Ohlone College in Fremont, California

  • 10:15 - 11:45 am - State presentations from Alaska, Arizona, and Nevada followed by discussion

  • 12 - 1 pm - Brown bag lecture, “Latina Political Activism”

    • Dr. Tiffany Gonzalez, Bonquois Postdoctoral Fellow in Women’s History at Tulane University
