A new suffrage marker will be dedicated in Kanab as part of the Western Legends Round-Up! This marker is part of the National Votes for Women Trail and honors Kanab’s all-woman town council elected in 1911. Placed on the ballot as a joke, Mary Chamberlain, Tamar Hamblin, Luella McAllister, Blanche Hamblin, and Ada Pratt Seegmiller won election and put the jokesters to shame. They cleaned up the town and showed that women were “perfectly able to do the work.”
