Free event! This new mural features 4 Black women in Utah history who lived and worked in Salt Lake City near Richmond Park.
Sema Hadithi, Better Days, and Wasatch Community Gardens partnered to commission a mural for the community garden in Richmond Park depicting 4 women who lived and worked in the neighborhood at different points in Utah history. Local artist Brooke Smart created the final mural design based on suggestions and votes from community leaders, and the finished creation will be unveiled at 6 pm on June 27 as the last event of the official Juneteenth Utah celebrations.
Join us for an evening in the garden with storytellers and displays honoring the women who have shaped the place we call home! Once the mural subjects are revealed on the 27th, you can learn more about each of the women at utahwomenshistory.org. No tickets are required.
We thank the Utah Division of State History, the Utah Division of Arts & Museums, and the Salt Lake City Arts Council for their financial support of this project.
